MS-74 Adaptive and Controllable Modular Structures

Adaptive and controllable modular structures have become accepted structural solutions in various fields ranging from aerospace, robotic, architecture and civil engineering. Systems such as tensegrity structures, adaptive trusses, and membrane structures are of interest for high strength-to-weight ratios, modularity, and controllability. However, the analysis of structures undergoing small and large shape-changes faces challenges due to geometric nonlinearity and elapsed computational time during control. This minisymposium will provide a forum for the dissemination of knowledge and exchange of ideas about the mechanics of rapid assembly structures, innovative materials and mechanisms, structural effects of control systems and topology optimization of adaptive structures.
